5 Common Questions About 4C Hair

Common problems with 4C Hair.jpg

There are a lot of myths when it comes to 4C hair in regards to the texture and how to look after it. Abbey Osho, founder of the award-winning, Salon ABV gives us some tips.

My hair is tough after drying; how do I make it more manageable?

Your hair will feel tough after it dries because it needs moisture - or more of it. To avoid this, try applying moisturiser regularly then twisting your hair and tucking the ends away.

How do I work with my curly pattern?

It always best to work with and not against your natural curl pattern. Your hair will always do what it wants to do so if you try to make it do otherwise, this will just result in over manipulating your hair. Keeping it simple is the best thing to do. You can try flat twisting, braiding or just putting it in a bun.

Which essential products do you recommend I buy?

The essential products to have are below:

  • Moisturising cleanser

  • Moisturising deep conditioner

  • Leave-in conditioner

  • Hair butter or oil

Should I brush or comb my hair?

Avoid combing or brushing your hair when it is dry. Yes, you can comb your hair, but this should be kept to the bare minimum. I will suggest you only use a wide-tooth comb or Tangle Teaser when your hair is wet or has some slip in it. When you are combing your hair always start from the ends and work your way to the roots gently. Ideally you should section your hair to allow to easy manageability.

Will using heat damage my hair?

The answer is yes and no (make up your mind I hear you say LOL) well like everything else overdoing anything is not good. Never use heat on dry hair and never use heat on your hair without heat protection.  Using low heat and not too frequent is not going to damage your hair if done correctly.

And finally

Your hair is as unique to you as your fingerprint.  The health of your hair depends on your overall health.  My equation for hair health is 80% nutrition/wellbeing, 15% technique and 5% product.
