What's In My Makeup Bag - Yulanda Solomon

Yulanda Solomon is a beauty enthusiast who has a passion for all things makeup, skincare and hair care related. She shares her passion on her blog, Miss Landa_xox which she has been running for a few years. When she is not hunting out new beauty launches and brands she is watching YouTube videos to find out the latest trends. Yolanda took time out to show us the beauty products in her makeup bag. Describe the items in your makeup bag. Like most girls, I absolutely love makeup. I enjoy in particularly creating eyeshadow looks for my deep complexion. I’m not too fussed on foundation, concealer, highlight and contour as I have good skin - thanks Mum. I have learnt that just because everyone is buying a high end product, doesn’t mean you must have it. I prefer to buy drugstore makeup and they still work as well and save money.

The products I have in my makeup bag, I’ve had for quite some time and you’ll be surprised where I got them from. I will put the products in order of how I apply them on my face, bearing in mind I don’t wear makeup every day or even do a full face when I do.

After I get out of the shower and get dressed, I do my eyebrows. For that I use my Anastasia Beverley Hills Dip Brow Pomade in the shade Ebony. I bought this after early this year from Amazon and was amazed at how good this product is. A little goes a long way and although it's is pricey it is worth the money.

To prime my oily skin, I sometimes use Milk of Magnesia or Kiko Mat Base and they work great for my skin. I will then use either my L’Oréal True Match in the shade C10 Espresso, which is my perfect shade for my foundation colour. I purchased this from Ebay, and I must say this shade is super blendable and doesn’t make my face cakey at all. If I don’t use that, I will use my Sephora 10hr Wear Perfection Foundation in the shade deep dark ebony. I actually bought this when I was in Dubai, and was shocked to find it there and for a reasonable price.

Next, I would sometimes do a subtle highlight and I use either my L’Oréal True Match or my MAC Studio Concealer in the shade NW45. I highlight only under my eyes. To set my highlight, I use Laura Mercier Translucent Powder that I got whilst on holiday in Dubai. This is very light and I don’t bake instead I blend it with my highlight to avoid that white cast you see in pictures.

I don’t usually contour, since I have a small face but if I want to go overboard, I use Cake Cosmetics Foundation in the shade N10. This shade is too dark for my foundation colour, but I find it is perfect as my contour shade. For highlight I use my favourite, Makeup Revolution Baked Bronzer in the shade Rock on World. I purchased this shade in Superdrug, it is perfect for Women of Colour and it brings out my smile even more.

To set my whole face, I use either my Ben Nye Translucent Powder in the shade Ebony that I got from their website or L’Oréal True Match Powder. Sometimes I use blush and if I do, I use MAC Sweet as Cocoa which I got ages ago. Since my lashes are naturally curly, I don’t have a certain mascara since they all work the same for me. So I currently use the Rimmel Last Sensational that I got from Superdrug. Lastly, I would set my face using MAC Fix Plus to give my face a natural finish.

Which is your favourite item in your makeup bag? The majority of these products work for me since I have a deep complexion and my face is extremely oily in my T-zone. If I had to choose one favourite item in my bag, it would probably be my Kiko Primer. Its affordable, you don’t need too much and it works great for my skin type.
