What's in My Makeup Bag - Dija Ayodele

Dija pic 2Dija is known for her bespoke beauty service, Facials by Dija which allows you to have facials at home or work. She also writes for Spell Magazine as their resident skincare columnist as well as Psychologies magazine. She took time out to show me the products in her makeup bag. Describe the items in your makeup bag. My makeup bag is an edit of my favourite key products. Given the sometimes hectic pace of my life as a skincare expert and a busy mum, my makeup is curated to quickly go from professional and polished to fun and laid back looks whilst hanging out by the climbing frame.

A flawless base is my starting point so I’m never without Laura Mercier Smooth Finish Flawless Fluid foundation. It provides medium coverage, enough so I can leave out concealer most days and evens out my skin tone brilliantly. I also have my trusted MAC Mineralised SkinFinish which I dust over my T-zone.

I use House of Glamdolls GlamBase Wheel 2 for any concealing. The texture and consistency are perfect to conceal dark spots, highlight my eyebrow and lately I’ve been using Radiate (the middle shade) to perfect my strobing technique. Blusher is a failsafe item to liven up my face. I find Tom Ford Ravish to be just the right combination of brick red to define my cheeks without looking unnatural.

I was allowed to start plucking my eyebrows at 16 and I was a bit overzealous with the tweezers so I now have to fill in my brows. I have been using Rimmel Eyebrow Pencil in black brown for over ten years. The colour closely matches my natural hair colour and I use the powders from the HD Brow Palette to set everything in place.

I never have enough time to blend eyeshadows, so I love this chunky Charlotte Tilbury Colour Chameleon Eyeshadow Pencil in Bronzed Garnet. I apply in short strokes and use my finger to blend out. It goes on like a powder, there’s no creasing and the colour makes my eyes pop.

I’m not loyal to mascara brands I’m afraid, but I do like Make Up For Ever Smokey Extravagant. It’s midnight black, gives volume, density and length. Everything you need from a mascara and the unusual shaped wand means every single lash gets a coating.

Lipstick is the easiest item to change my look, so I always keep a number of different ones on me to suit any outfit or my mood. My everyday lipstick is Bobbi Brown Art Stick Cassis - a burnt red. Again, it’s a chunky pencil. You line and colour together which saves a lot of time. Lasts all day too.

Sisley Hydrating Lipstick in L33 is my high impact red, that bestows instant glamour and upgrades my complete look in an instant. I love the smooth finish and its super hydrating. Likewise, I also always have a nude too. Tom Ford Coco Ravish makes me feel well put together, especially when paired with a brown lip liner for a slight ombre effect.

Which is your favourite item in your makeup bag? Laura Mercier Smooth Finish Flawless Fluid. It goes a tremendously long way in making me feel ready and look well put together. The finish is second to none and I love the ethos behind the brand. To make women feel and look good, resonates personally with me each time I use this foundation.

Where did you get your makeup bag? It was a gift from Omorovicza in Liberty last summer. I love their skincare and can normally be found depleting my life savings at their counter. I love patent and I love navy blue. It’s small enough to fit in my handbag and the baby change bag too.
