We are Hosting a Natural Hair Masterclass with ASIAM Naturally
We have teamed up with ASIAM Naturally to host a Natural Hair Masterclass on Wednesday 26th September that covers what it is like to navigate the UK with natural hair. ASIAM Naturally is a hair brand created specifically for Black women with natural textured hair. The brand consists of 11 formulated products designed specifically for tightly coiled and curly hair; each with an impressive ingredient listing that includes many of nature's finest organic ingredients. The brand is very popular with natural hair bloggers and their Curl Clarity Shampoo has won the Curly Trreats Excellence Awards for Best Shampoo.
The evening will be divided into two sections:
There will be an ASIAM Naturally hair demonstration followed by a panel discussion about navigating life in the UK as a naturalista.
Natural Hair Demonstration
The evening will kick off with a demonstration of ASAIM Naturally products conducted by Claire Martin Kennedy who is the ASIAM educator.
We will be tackling issues such as the perception of beauty, getting The Big Chop, hair texture discrimination, the 'Can I touch your hair' saga and learning how to look after your hair.
Emma is a Social Historian and Broadcaster who has conducted a lot of research about the politics of afro hair. This has culminated to the pending release of her book, Don’t Touch My Hair whch will be released next year.
Abbey is the owner of Salon ABV which is an award-winning salon based in Kent. Her salon promotes looking after natural hair through a variety of hairstyles.
Kehryse is a freelance beauty journalist and founder of the Black Women In talk series. She has been natural for over a decade and promotes Black beauty and empowerment.
Beulah is a natual hair blogger and cartoonist. She set up her blog, Creamy Crack Rehab to document her experience of going natural.
Kaye is the co-founder of Chop Chop London, a new hair salon concept that offers a luxury treat without the pretentious price tag. They offer those with natural hair a space where they can get short and snappy hairstyles while they are on the go.
Claire Martin Kennedy
Claire is an ASIAM educator and a fully qualified hairdresser who has a lot of knowedge about all textures of hair. She is also an educator within the naturally curly hair industry. Claire was nominated for a Black Beauty Award in 2013 and is the winner of the Hair Club Live Open Chair competition in 2016.
All in all, it promises to be a pretty amazing evening!
