Too Faced Born This Way Foundation
Shade range expansion has been a hot topic on the beauty scene in recent months, and we’ve seen many companies expanding and developing their shade ranges especially for their foundation range. Too Faced is one of those companies, however they also consulted with the beauty content creator Jackie Aina to develop nine new shades to their already existing Born This Way Foundation. The Too Faced Born This Way Foundation is an oil-free foundation which is supposed to provide the skin with a ‘naturally flawless finish’, as well as a medium to full coverage.
The foundation is infused with coconut water to help provide moisture to the skin, alpine rose to help brighten the skin and hyaluronic acid to bring hydration to the skin. Too Faced have also claimed that this foundation is long lasting and should last for up to 12 hours.
With an impressive 35 shades (17 tan and deep shades) in the new and improved range, the foundation comes with three undertones (rose, neutral and golden). The new deeper shades are lPraline (golden undertone), Brulee (golden undertone), Butter Pecan (golden undertone), Spiced Rum (rose undertone), Chai (golden undertone), Tiramisu (golden undertone), Truffle (golden undertone), Sable (rose undertone) and Ganache (neutral undertone).
The foundation I received was the shade Spiced Rum and I’ve been using it for the past month. When I initially applied it I noticed that the shade was slightly off for me. The undertone just is not for me as I have a neutral undertone and the shade Spiced Rum has a rose undertone. However, it’s not the most terrible match and once I’ve powdered and bronzed I can definitely make it work.
I found the foundation to apply beautifully onto my skin, and I didn’t find it dried down too quickly and it was easy to apply with a brush or beauty sponge. I tend to stick to three pumps of the foundation on my face which gives me a decent medium to full coverage with my hyperpigmentation showing slightly. As I have oily combination skin, I did find that I definitely needed to powder after applying this foundation, and apply a mattifying primer before application.
My face did get oily after about five to six hours of wearing this foundation, however it wasn’t the worst oils I’ve experienced. I can wear this product for up to 10 hours without it feeling uncomfortable, however my oils definitely do show through.
I have actually tried this foundation in the past. A couple of years ago I bought the foundation when they had very limited dark shades. The shade I picked was Mahogany and although they describe it as having a golden undertone, when I tried it it definitely appeared quite orange on me.
Also back then I didn’t particularly enjoy this foundation as I found that I got oily very quickly and it just didn’t last on me. Now I don’t know what has changed (except for the shade range), but my experience back then with this foundation is definitely different to my experience today. I will suggest that if you have very oily skin then this may not be the best foundation for you as it is very hydrating so will make you very oily.
Overall I’ve enjoyed using this foundation. If I had any suggestions other than oily skin types possibly giving this one a miss, I’d say that you should definitely go into a store to get matched. Although the shades have been worked on for deeper skin tones, I do still think that they are quite hit or miss and there’s still some work to be done.
Too Faced Born This Way Foundation is priced at £29.00.
