Chinonyerem Odimba is a writer based in Bristol who has created Princess & The Hustler, which is a play that examines the standards of beauty in the UK during the 1960s. discuss the role of beauty icons, pageants and politics in their influence on young Black British girls. Chinonyerem took time out to tell us about the beauty product she cannot live without.
The beauty product I cannot live without is MAC Retro Matte Liquid Lipcolour. I first discovered it about three years ago in a local MAC store. I have three shades so I use it practically everyday. In fact I have three colours for different occasions - Ruby Woo (for day and night), Carnivorous (for a more natural day look) and a Uniformly Fabulous (for the vampy late night partying). There is always one in my handbag but it is a staple in my makeup bag at home and on my dresser. Because I switch between the two I tend to buy a new one every six months. For me it is the intensity of the colour and the matte quality. Plus it is long lasting and doesn't have the shininess of other lipsticks. Also because it is a wand I find it easier to apply on the move.
Princess & The Hustler is showing at the Bristol Old Vic’s Weston Studio till 23rd February, before touring venues nationally until 13th April.
