Stila is highly regarded within the beauty community with MUAs, journalists and bloggers raving about it. The brand describes themselves as carefree and whimsical and encourages women to celebrate their individual style. I tried out the stila Shape & Shade Custom Contour Duo and Nude Interlude Colour Balm Lipstick. stila Shape & Shade Custom Contour Duo The contour trend is not going anywhere and whilst personally I don’t subscribe to a heavy contour for daytime, when you have a face the size of a dinner plate (as I do) a little sculpting is always helpful. The Duo is a cream formula, not like a cream foundation – it is sheer which means that you have to be extremely heavy handed to end up stripy. This is a plus in the realm of subtle contouring. Also, you get a huge amount of product - eighteen grams, nine grams of each shade. Brilliant.
The other fantastic thing about this product is that it comes in three shade intensities and the deep shade is properly deep. Not pretend deep, properly deep. The contour shade is deeper than my skin tone so I get a proper contour and the shade is neutral rather than warm toned, so it creates a beautiful tone. If like me, the threat of a double chin is edging ever closer, this is a good under the chin contour as it dries matte and so it does not transfer like a cream or powder product does (unless you put powder on top of it). The highlight shade, on its own was a little ashy on me, however it worked blended with a touch of the contour shade or with a touch of a highlighter powder. The staying power of this product is good, it lasts all day and packaging is pretty yet sturdy. The drawback is that it is a little too big to carry around in your handbag.
stila Nude Interlude Colour Balm Lipstick A balm lipstick? Hmmm I have to be honest - I did not like the sound of this but Elyssa is a gorgeous rich chocolate burgundy tone, in that it deposits lots of colour onto the lips whilst remaining supple and moisturising. In line with the Contour Duo, this product is available in three shades to suit different skin intensities. The packaging is sleek and I love the gold and rose gold tones in it.
However - and it is a big however, this lip product is infused with peppermint oil. I don’t like minty lip products and from when you take the lid off the product you can smell the mint. When you apply the colour there is a tingle and I am not a fan of this. I’m torn – I really am because I love the colour but the mintyness is problematic for me. If you like minty lip products you will love this but if like me you prefer your lippie mint-free, you will either need to apply lot of lip balm before applying the product or you need to pass on this colour.
stila Shape & Shade Custom Contour Duo is priced at 31.00 and the Nude Interlude Colour Balm Lipstick at £16.00.
