Sleek MakeUP Gloss Me

I have never really been one to wear lipstick, as I find they tend to dry out your lips. I do prefer lip glosses though as they are great for adding shine. This summer 2014 is all about making a statement with your lips using bold and bright colours. Coming in a lavish 12 shades, I believe that the Gloss Me lip gloss by Sleek MakeUP would be capable of showcasing this trend. Having only tried a few of Sleek Make UP’s products before (crème to powder foundation and their new gel polishes) I was intrigued to try their Gloss Me range. In terms of appearance, the lip gloss tube was well-designed and it was clear to see the intense shine of the gloss through the tube. The packaging also gave the gloss a perfect finish. I tried the Belle of the Ball shade, which is a pink/purple type colour. I tried applying this lip gloss in two different ways; the first time I put it on my lips whilst they were bare and the gloss gave my lips a nice shimmer. However, even though I liked how it looked, I did not like the way it felt as it was rather stiff and sticky. When I applied this lip gloss on another occasion I first applied Vaseline, I still had the same shine but I preferred the way it felt as it was more fluid and not as sticky. I think the product would be best with a base underneath, for example Vaseline, Carmex or just a little appliance of a lip balm.

One problem I have with lip glosses is that they are not long lasting, but in terms of durability this product was exceptional compared to other glosses that I have used before. The gloss stayed on for over two hours even whilst drinking and eating. Even when I thought I needed to apply more gloss, the shine was still visible. Despite this, there were some downsides - such as the inevitable moment when my hair stuck to my lips due to the wind. Also, even though it did give my lips a little colour, it did not give off as much as I would have hoped for. Being a women of colour it was as if the gloss colour did not appear much on my lips but just gave it a shimmery tint. Perhaps a darker shade would have been more apparent.

Since the Belle of the Ball is one of Sleek’s mid-lighter shades. I do believe that this particular shade would be more visible on a Caucasian skin tone. However, there are still 11 other shades to suit your purpose, no matter what your skin tone is or the makeup look you are going for.

Sleek’s Gloss Me is priced at £4.99. All 12 shades are available from the Sleek website. Gloss Me can also be purchased at Superdrug and Boots but not all shades are available.
