Rising Beauty Idol: Kelita Bignall from Yours Truly Organics
Welcome to another installment of Rising Beauty Idol where we profile a new up and coming beauty entrepreneur. This week we feature Kelita Bignall, the founder of Yours Truly Organics. What made you decide to set up your own beauty business? I suffered with quite severe acne in my early twenties and used a lot of harsh chemical treatments on my skin to try and rectify my skin issues. In my mid twenties I decided to make the switch to natural and organic products but couldn't find any that were suitable for my oily and problematic skin, so I started making my own. This then developed into me working with a lab to develop my products commercially and hence the business was created.
What is your background? My background is in finance, I'm a Chartered Accountant and have always worked in the financial services sector so I am relatively new to the beauty industry.
What is the concept behind Yours Truly Organics? The concept behind the brand is that everybody deserves beautiful skin and should feel confident in their own skin without feeling compelled to wear makeup to cover up. The raw materials used in the products are largely organic and natural and are certified by Ecocert.
What is your USP? Organic skincare for oily and blemish prone skin. As there aren't very many natural and organic brands that target this skin type, so I consider the brand to be very unique in this respect.
How did you decide on the look and feel of the brand? I wanted the brand to have a polished look to it but to also look appealing to both women and men of all backgrounds so I used colours such as black and gold and kept the brand design very simple.
What are your future plans for Yours Truly Organics? As I have just recently launched, I am focused on building awareness of the brand and making the products accessible through retail channels.
What advice do you have for anyone who wants to set up their own beauty business? Be prepared for a lot of hard work. Its a very rewarding industry to work for in terms of interactions with customers and other people within the industry, however patience is required as it can take time to develop a product and also to gain recognition for your products.
