My Makeup Lesson at Bobbi Brown

A while ago I attended a makeup lesson at Bobbi Brown where I learnt the art of applying makeup. It sounds a bit odd that an editor of a beauty magazine taking makeup lessons but in actual fact I never really learnt how to use all these wonderful products. I just picked up tips here and there and stumbled along. I can apply my daily makeup (primer, foundation, eye shadow, mascara and lipstick) in all of ten minutes. I decided that it was time to find out exactly what I am supposed to be doing by the experts and of course use this time to find out new tricks and discover new products. I was booked into the Bobbi Brown studio at John Lewis on Oxford Street where I was greeted by Ivan, the makeup artist. He talked me through the lesson and before he started he asked a bit about my makeup history and my skincare. I decided to go for the Bobbi's Ultimate Makeup Lesson as I felt it would give me a rounded guide to creating a basic look.

He started off by moisturising my eye area using the Hydrating Eye Cream. Then he filled in my brows with the Mahogany shade in the Dark Brow Kit for some definition. After that he used the Creamy Concealer in Chestnut which he followed with the Skin Foundation Stick in Almond.

For my eyes he used one of the new Bobbi Brown Eye Shadows in Banana and Rich Brown as well as Long-Wear Cream Shadow in Violet Plum and Sparkle Eye Shadow in Silver Lilac. My eyes were lined with the Long-Wear Gel EyelIner in Black Ink and this was topped off with their Smokey Eye Mascara. For my lips he used their lovely Art Stick in Rose Bloom and topped it with a High Shimmer Lip Gloss in Bronzed Heather. The look was completed with the Sheer Finish Loose Powder in Basic Brown.

I was very pleased if surprised by the results. The look was very natural looking and was a slightly different look than I would go for - for instance I would never use such a light colour on my lips but it really worked.

The aim of Bobbi Brown's makeup lessons is to simplify the process of applying makeup and empower you so you feel confident and attractive. The lessons range from refreshing your beauty routine to mastering the much fanned over smokey eye.

There is something for everyone - teenagers seeking their first makeup lessons, someone looking to create a sensational look for that perfect night out and also for a bride who is looking for that special look for her big day. The lessons are FREE and last anything from 10 minutes to an hour. All you need to do is contact your local Bobbi Brown counter or free standing store and book a session.
