Masque Bar

Over the past few years beauty innovations in the West have taken their lead from beauty trends in the East - more specifically Korea. BB creams anyone? Masque Bar is part of the Look Beauty range from Korea. There are twelve masks in this range but four of them are sold exclusively in Boots. I have spent the last month getting up close and personal with the Anti Blemish Mud Mask and the Pore Refining Cream Mask. The masks are sold in a set of three 15ml sachets, in a box which is plenty for the face and neck. Great if you are travelling or if you want to share the benefits of a mask with your partner, sister, mother or friend.

Pore size is dependent on a range of factors so I was a bit sceptical about the Pore Refining Mask. Clay masks draw impurities out of your skin and as a result of that the ‘appearance’ of the pore size will always change. As well as minimising pores this mask claims to exfoliate smooth and moisturise the skin.

The mask has a smooth texture so the exfoliating action is not manual and there is an antioxidant focus in the ingredients which consist of raspberry extract, co enzyme Q10 and vitamin E. I love that the mask does not dry hard so you can crack a smile and talk on the phone. On the skin, I found that there was no discernible difference in the size of my pores. Like other clay masks that I have used my skin was clear after use and I followed it with an Exfoliating Mask and Hydrating Mask as usual with no irritation.

The Anti Blemish Mask is a mud mask and whilst it has a higher concentration of Kaolin and Bentonite clay, it is very similar in texture to the Pore Refining Mask. It dries slightly stiffer then this mask but you can still talk and smile. I used this as a spot treatment over two nights on a spot that was under the skin and it did help to draw it out. When used all over the face, it had a similar result to the other clay masks that I have used and the addition of Tea Tree and Green Tea help to deal with excess sebum and spots on the skin.

Of the two masks I preferred the Anti Blemish one to the Pore Refining Mask. I felt that it fit in better with my triple mask regime and my skin was in better condition after I used it.

Masque Bar is available from Boots and retails for £9.99.
