Mary Kay Gel Semi-Shine Lipstick

Mary Kay’s new Gel Semi-Shine Lipstick teams the trend of gel-like qualities with rich, stay-true colour and hydration. It sounds like the type of lipstick which is timeless and ahead of the curve, since we have mostly seen gellish finishes in nail products and eye liners as opposed to lipsticks.

The new Gel Semi-Shine Lipstick has a luxurious look and appeal, and seems to have taken design inspiration from Giorgio Armani’s Rouge D’Armani Lipstick, yet its price point is much lower. I tried this Lipstick in shade Red Smoulder. Whilst I usually opt for pink and brown lipsticks over red, a gel texture is probably most suited with the colour red. Red Smoulder is a classic, postbox red which would flatter any skin tone.

The lipstick is opaque and delivers full pigmentation with a single swipe. The shine delivered is an elegant and subtle one, rather than a full on, manifest shine. I usually associate gel with maximum gloss and shine, however the term gel here must refer to the lipstick’s texture, which is wonderfully creamy and hydrating, whilst maintaining a lightweight feel.

The lipstick possesses Cushion Matrix Technology, which ensures the formula delivers a comforting, cushiony feel to the lips. Lips stay hydrated for several hours. I did notice a slight amount of transfer to the teeth, but a blot immediately after application helps to prevent transfer.

This lipstick is bold and vibrant in terms of the highly pigmentated finish and luxurious texture, lending to a maximum impact look. Touch ups are required every few hours or so, however the high-end packaging means that any excuse to produce this lipstick from your bag is a welcome one. The Gel Semi-Shine Lipstick is available in a variety of shades to suit every occasion.

Mary Kay Gel Semi-Shine Lipstick is priced at £14.00.
