Mary Kay At Play

Mary Kay At Play is Mary Kay's latest line of ‘flirtatiously daring’ and wild beauty products which advocate a higher ‘colour wattage’ than what you can usually expect from everyday makeup. It is aimed at a younger audience and presents the idea of fun and increased affordability along with added convenience, made clear from the new travel-friendly and multi-purpose products. One such product is Mary Kay at Play Shadow and Liner, an on-the-go multitasking eye shadow and liner in one, which I tried in shade Rebel Rose. The shadow is of a reddish rose that is highly metallic in colour and strong in pigment. I’m impressed by the buildable and creamy formula - a lot of cream shadow sticks tend to drag on the eyelids, leaving an uneven payoff, however Mary Kay have ensured that a smooth application is achieved.

The Shadow is smudge-proof and great for days where you require a rich, reflective colour on the lids that will last for several hours. The liner is of an intense black that applies like a stick gel liner rather than a kohl liner. Again, it has a super longevity. Although the preciseness of the nib means you can achieve a crisp, sharp line, the formula of the liner means it can be smudged for a smoky line if desired.

Another product in the Mary Kay At Play line is the Lip and Cheek Stick, which is a stamp-like, dual-purpose cream pigment for the lips and cheek. Like most lip and cheek products this one works much better on the cheeks, although the hint of colour it imparts on the lips would be welcome if you’re in a rush. It has a smooth, hydrating formula that feels weightless on the skin. I tried it in shade Peach Pop which is a universally flattering shade that leaves a warm glow on the skin. It doesn’t have a long lasting ability but a lot of cream formulas don’t, and the stamp-like format makes for easy re-application.

The products don’t look particularly luxe, but then again, pretension plays no part within the At Play range. I’ve enjoyed using these products and will be exploring more within the colourful, affordable and vibrant range.

Mary Kay at Play Shadow and Liner is priced at £13.00 and the Lip and Cheek Stick at £8.00
