MAC Veluxe A Trois Collection
MAC Cosmetics’ latest collection, namely the Veluxe A Trois collection, is a show-stopping array of sparkly and glamorous makeup products. The collection seems to focus on warm browns, pinks and purples, making it suitable for the coming Fall season where such hues are particularly befitting. I tried three lip products, starting with a Cremesheen Lipstick in shade Flowerscope. Cremesheen finishes are my favourite type of MAC Lipstick finish because they tend to be exceptionally creamy and hydrating, lending to a comfortable feeling on the lips. They aren’t the most pigmented finish of lipsticks (as the swatches show) but they last well. They also offer a subtle sheen which amplifies the lips and makes them appear more pert and youthful. Flowerscope is a clean red pink, with a blue undertone. Initially, I thought that this was just another bright pink from MAC however the cool undertone makes Flowerscope different to a hot pink and makes teeth appear brighter.
I also tried Quelle Surprise, which is a deep purple berry with hints of dark pink. Quelle Surprise is indeed surprising, because it’s a unique shade and not one you can easily dupe. Personally, it’s one of the standout pieces of the collection. The deep grape colour is as much daring as it is easy to wear, and is a shade which complements darker skin tones effortlessly. I prefer to wear this with minimal eye makeup, to draw attention to the uniqueness of Quelle Surprise.
Lastly, I experimented with a Cremesheen Glass in shade Softly Lit. The Cremesheen Glass is not an ordinary Lip Gloss, but is a lip finish that blurs the properties of a lipstick and gloss, for it ‘fuses the creamy texture of a lipstick with the high shine of a gloss’ according to MAC. I found the texture a bit like a thick lip lacquer, but without the stickiness.
The interesting thing about Softly Lit is that, whilst it very much holds its own as an independent lip product, it can be worn on top of a lipstick to not just add shine, but create a unique fusion that alters the shade of the lipstick. Softly Lit serves to tone down the vivid colours of Flowerscope and Quelle Surprise, and is a soft beige with tiny flecks of glitter. These flecks are extremely tiny and discreet, but create a high impact that looks extremely elegant and makes lip gloss appear as grown up as ever.
All in all, MAC’s Veluxe A Trois is an impressive collection that makes the concept of high shine, sparkle and glitter appear focused and stylish. Again, MAC prove that they’re all about quality and suitability for all skin tones.
The Cremesheen Glass is priced at £17.50 and the Lipstick at £15.50.
