Laura Mvula – The Unapologetic Beauty

A British recording artist, songwriter and composer, her songs are incredibly mesmerising - transcending into her beauty looks, which is known to be powerful, striking and memorable.  Her choice of makeup style may not be suitable for most, but her chosen colour palettes are very rich and sensual, especially on women of colour.

Estee Lauder Double Wear Foundation is a must to create a Laura look, as Laura’s base is always seamless, without erasing her skin texture, which I find more flattering and realistic.  This foundation offers that, as well as longevity, SPF 10, it is smudge proof, medium - buildable coverage and lightweight in consistency.  A little goes a long way, I suggest using a dense brush to stipple it on and then blend it out from the centre of the face outwards.

I thoroughly believe in the power of blush, it is so important to bring life back into the skin after foundation application to avoid looking dull and as you can see, Laura Mvula is far from dullJuvisa’s Place the Saharan Blush Palette Volume II is full of rich browns, pink, peach and rose gold shimmer tones to suit a spectrum of skin tones as well the deepest shades.  It’s soft yet intense pigmentation allows for great bendability, which can be used with a small fluffy brush, worked from the mid apples of the cheeks, back into the temples adding warmth and definition to the face.

Eyes are very important, as it speaks a language of it own, the By Terry Eye Designer Palette No2 Colour Design carries you from season to season,  it is packed with 10 of the richest jewel toned shades complimentary to Women of Colour to create a modest or dramatic eye look.  The shades in this stylish palette can be used individually or blended together for a unique hue on the eyes.  When applying eyeshadow, two brushes are essential, a dense brush to pack on the colour and a fluffy domed brush to blend it out.

Laura’s skin has a soft, dewy finish, never overpowered or caked, for this, I find that the Suqqu Sheer Loose Powder works incredibly well, as it claims, it is sheer, light reflective, fresh and offers radiance to the skin because of its finely milled hydrating particles, which is almost invisible to the eye -  adding a blurring effect.  I personally use this powder, it creates a skin like texture and sets with longevity that I don’t find with other powders.

MDMflow Semi Matte Lipstick is definitely the cherry on the cake to finishing off a Laura look, its bold, strong, sexy and sensual at the same time, whilst completing the look, drawing all the colours fittingly and adding a subtle luminosity to the lips straight from the bullet for that extra pout.
