Jurlique Activating Water Essence
I am a huge fan of any product that hydrates my parched but oily prone skin, so this Jurlique Activating Water Essence sounded right up my street. The purpose this essence plays in your skincare routine is that it hydrates and preps your skin, acting as that vital step post cleansing and before the application of your serums and moisturisers.
Its hero ingredient is marshmallow root extract, which contains a high percentage of a thick, syrup-like liquid called mucilage, that is said to have intensive hydrating, softening and balancing properties. Additionally it has a range of seven other botanicals that are meant to condition and revitalise the skin, such as Peach Leaf Extract, Witch Hazel and extracts of Sage, Nettle, Calendula, Peppermint leaf, Rosemary, Yarrow and Marjoram.
My personal experience has been that it acts as the perfect hydration step in my skincare ritual and over the last month of using it, this product has helped to hydrate my skin, indulge my senses (it smells amazingly soothing and somewhat herbal from all the botanicals) and it prepares my skin to absorb the full benefit of the rest of my products.
I use it by pouring a few drops into my hand and gently pressing it over my face till it has been fully absorbed and then I layer over my serum and moisturiser. Over the last month of trialing it out, I actually stopped using my usual hyaluronic acid serum and my skin hasn't felt at all dehydrated; instead the formula has helped my skin retain moisture.
I would definitely recommend it particularly if your skin needs a hydration boost. And although the initially outlay isn’t the cheapest, I am only a quarter way through the bottle so it should last you for quite a while.
Jurlique Activating Water Essence is priced at £40.00.
