Getting My Hair Did at Chop Chop London

My curl type is 3B/C and it’s now shoulder length and grown out from an asymmetrical tiny weeny afro. From time to time, I like to mix up my look so I visited Chop Chop London for inspo on how to refresh my wash 'n' go looks. Their ethos is diversity, gender equality, convenience and sustainability, so I was keen to see what they could do with my hair type.

Chop Chop London is located in Old Street Station and as you can expect from that area, the décor is contemporary with a black and white theme. The space is open plan so everyone has clear views of each other, which works because it’s a very relaxed environment. The staff are very friendly and helpful. It feels like a dressing room where you can hang out with your pals and get glammed up.

My hair was washed before the visit for ease as Chop Chop doesn’t offer a hair wash service. My stylist was Diane and we had a brief chat about my hair type. We looked at the salon’s style menu, then, I chose the style I wanted. It was three cornrows from hairline to nip of the neck on the left side of my head; the hair on the right side would remain loose with refreshed curls. Diane was amazing; she takes great pride in her work and went the extra mile. She tweaked the side cornrows, so, it would suit me. A combo of Phytospecfic Moisturising Styling Cream and Eco Style Gel were used to 'zhoosh' up the look.

I was very happy with my restyle; the cornrows looked super cute and my curls were popping. I love this place. Chop Chop London is affordably priced; £20 for an express 20 minutes style. The price is the same for men and women. (Children are welcome too.) If you’re in a rush then you can book in advance. You can download their app which is available on Android and iPhone. If you are a curly girl who’s not mastered the cornrow (too busy/want a treat) or after a blow out restyle, then Chop Chop’s got you covered.

Chop Chop London was founded by Kaye Sotomi and Laure Ferrand who both come from corporate backgrounds. They brought onboard, Vidal Sassoon trained celebrity session stylist, Sherman Hawthorne who has extensive knowledge in Afro and European hair. He helped to craft the menu of styles and cuts, which will be regularly updated with the season’s changing trends.

You can find Chop Chop London at St. Agnes Well TFL Tunnels,, Old Street Station, London EC1Y 1BE. They plan to open branches across London.
