Getting Lippy with Aveda's Rare Bloom Collection

Aveda-review-1.jpg

I tested several products from Aveda's Spring Summer makeup collection called Rare Bloom. One of them was the Nourish-Mint Smoothing Lipstick in Magenta Berry. Not only does it smooth your lips, but it's said to plump, hydrate and reduce fine lines. Magenta Berry is slightly deeper than a fuchsia pink and has a subtle hint of purple. What is striking about this lipstick isn't even the bold shade, but the tube is very unique, with a silver-grey palette and clear plastic top - I like the exterior appearance because it's simple and unpretentious. It also reduces waste by a third. The formulation of the lipstick is pleasantly creamy. It has a slight sheen which goes after a while to give a semi-matte finish. It didn't last too long on me but it's quick to touch up with it. What I am most keen on about this lipstick is that it doesn't just give the illusion of plump lips, but acts to actually plump lips. I did notice, after a few weeks of using this, that my lips were slightly more fuller. That's not even the best part - my favourite aspect is the scent. It smells just like mint chocolate (not remotely, but completely). I think this lipstick is wonderful and a steal at £13.50.

Aveda's Nourish-Mint Lip Definer complements the lipstick well. Like the lipstick, it is ecologically designed, the wood of which is sourced from a well-managed forest in line with the FSC. The shade I tried, Dragon Fruit, is similar to Magenta Berry so I wore them together. A lot of lip pencils literally feel like pencils rather than cosmetics in the sense that it can be tough to deposit and shade the entire lip, but Aveda's Lip Liner is quite creamy and lines and fills lips with minimal effort.

Again, this product smells highly of mint. The slight negative of wearing this with the above mentioned lipstick is that their longevity differ a lot. This lip liner lasts much, much longer, but that is not really an issue and you can get round this by shading the entire lip area rather than line the lips, or opt to wear the liner with a longer lasting lipstick.

Aveda Nourish-Mint Smoothing Lipstick is priced at £13.50 and the Nourish-Mint Lip Definer at £15.00.
