Fashion Designers Do Beauty
In 2013 Marc Jacobs, Michael Kors and Tory Burch launched their beauty collections while Giorgio Armani expanded his collection, but it was Tom Ford who really started the ball rolling for fashion designers doing beauty in 2011 when he ventured into the world of cosmetics. His makeup range was raved over by the beauty elite and it is no coincidence that the likes of Marc Jacobs and co followed suit. With the Dior boutiques situated in the trendy Covent Garden in central London alongside Burberry and Chanel, designer cosmetics has never been so popular. Like a diffusion range, a beauty collection is a no brainer to a fashion designer. Pieces from the catwalk cost a fortune and not many people can afford it so the designer will create a beauty range that is much more accessible. Two designers who have translated their fashion brand into a beauty one are Michael Kors and Tory Burch.
The packaging for Tory Burch is truly sumptuous; the orange and gold packaging gives off a fresh and vibrant feel with a touch of glam. Inspired by her love for a natural polished look, Tory's beauty collection is a mixture of chic meets tomboy. It consists of lipsticks, lip & cheek tint, bronzer & blush and a face brush. There is also a bath and body range that contains bath and shower gel, body lotion, body cream as well as a candle. However, it is her fragrance that really stands out; Vetiver is a perfect mesh of citrus and fruit notes combined with florals and sensual smells. It really is a gorgeous perfume if you are a lover of fresh and feminine smells; it is very uplifting and perfect for the summer.
Nothing says bling more than the MIchael Kors's beauty collection. He made his entrance into the beauty world last year with that lavish TV commercial featuring Girls on Films by Duran Duran as a soundtrack. Like Tory Burch, gold is a main feature in the packaging with the white colour taking us back to the 80s with the St Tropez vibe. The collection consists of lipsticks, nail polishes, bronzers and a powder brush.
The ethos of this beauty collection is to create bold nails and beautiful lips that gives the Michael Kors woman her signature confidence and style. There are three ranges; Sometimes Sporty, which is a natural nude look, Always Sexy, which is bold and beautiful and Never Afraid to be Glam which is a dark and mysterious look. There is also a Body Collection that has an Indulgent Body Creme, Shimmer Bath Beads and a Liquid Shimmer Dry Oil Spray. Then there is the fragrance collection which has three unique scents to reflect our different moods. Michael Kors pretty much has something for everyone.
Who would have thought that lipstick would now be fashion designers' bread and butter.
