Essence Pure Nude Makeup Foundation and Mini Sheer Lip Balm

Essence have recently added a new foundation and lip balm to their fun, exciting and affordable range of makeup and beauty. The new Mini Sheer Lip Balm is described as balmy. The mini sheer lipbalm ensures soft and velvety lips with a silky finish and a touch of colour. The practical mini-stick shape with a retractable mine is easy to apply and is sure to fit into even the tiniest bag’. This lip balm is slightly bigger than a typical lip balm but smaller than lip crayons. It provides a sheer pop of colour to the lips for when a lipstick or lip gloss doesn’t suit. Because of the sheer nature, the tint doesn’t last very long, however the conditioning benefits leave the lips supple and soft. The new Pure Nude Makeup Foundation is described by Essence as: natural nude. The foundation convinces with its light texture and natural finish. It reliably conceals irregularities of the skin and has a subtle mattifying effect. The liquid formula blends wonderfully with the skin for a gorgeous “no make-up” feeling’. It sounded like a great lightweight foundation so I was looking forward to putting it to the test.

True to Essence’s description, their foundation has a very light texture that almost feels infused with water. Because of this, it feels great on the face and the skin feels like it can breathe. The thin consistency means that the foundation gives minimal coverage, which is easily built up with one or two more coats. The foundation doesn’t oxidise much and sits nicely on the face, emitting a slight glow whilst staying matte for a good few hours and because of the mattifying effect, there’s no need to wear a primer underneath this foundation. I’ve found that wearing this product only requires a touch up after approximately four or five hours.

I’d like to see Essence introduce more shades to this foundation, since it only comes in three shades which doesn’t cover the entire spectrum of skin tones - I tried the lightest shade which was too light for me but not light enough for many fair skin tones. However this foundation might offer the chance to experiment with the new shade adjusting drops that have hit the makeup industry recently. The Pure Nude Makeup Foundation overall is a superb product which offers a lightweight coverage and texture, an ideal option for when heavier and full coverage foundations seem a bit too much. The plastic, non-glass packaging means that it’s very portable-friendly and it gives a unique aesthetic compared to the typical foundation.

Essence Mini Sheer Lip Balm is priced at £2.00 and the Pure Nude Makeup Foundation at £3.80. The products are available to purchase at Wilkos.
