Dermalogica Daily Cleansing Shampoo and Daily Rinse Conditioner
Dermalogica are known for their excellent and very effective skincare products which I am also a huge fan of. Their new Daily Cleansing Shampoo and Conditioning Rinse was definitely something I had to try out.
The Daily Cleansing Shampoo is nourishing, sulfate free and gently cleanses your hair without stripping it of its moisture. Dermalogica promise a moisturising concoction with argan, avocado and coconut oils which with add shine and softness into every strand. I really loved using this product, It lathers really well and I felt like I didn’t need a second rinse but I went ahead with it anyway. The suds are slippery enough to finger comb and detangle my hair without tugging. I really like how clean it left my hair- squeaky clean but not drying. Infact it was really soft.
Dermalogica describe their Daily Rinse Conditioner as moisture rich to restore softness and shine for healthy hair. It’s recommended for thirsty, damaged strands that need nourishing and strengthening. I must admit I am a little disappointed with the conditioner. The texture is really smooth and has a semi runny consistency which feels slippery but doesn’t actually give much slip when detangling.
I found myself struggling to comb through sections of my hair with this so I had to split them into smaller sections in order to prevent excess tugging. I also had to use a lot of the conditioner on each section in order for me to detangle properly without breaking. I was disappointed because the conditioner feels and looks like it will give excellent slip but for my 4c natural hair I found this wasn’t the case.
The bottle (250ml) only lasted two wash days because of the amount of conditioner I had to use. For natural hair detangling purposes especially tightly coiled and kinky hair like mine, this won’t be the conditioner you reach for. In terms of its claims of restoring softness and shine to the hair, I let the conditioner sit for 10-15 mins before rinsing. It leaves my hair soft and conditioned but I found this wasn’t a long lasting impression.
I love the Dermalogica brand (their skincare is amazing) but this conditioner was a let-down for me. I know it’s not marketed as a ‘natural hair’ conditioner so I can’t really fault them for the lack of slip for detangling. The shampoo on the other hand is really good and worked well with my natural hair. I will recommend the shampoo for naturals but the conditioner is a miss from me.
Dermalogica Daily Cleansing Shampoo is priced at £21.30 and the Daily Rinse Conditioner at £22.25.
