brownbeauty Goes Pink Part 1

Segun pic 1So February we wrote an article about the best flirty pink lipsticks for Valentine's Day which went down very well. Now that got us thinking about the types of pink lipsticks that would suit brown beauties. Bear in mind that we come in all shapes and sizes as well as all beautiful hues of brown. I tasked brownbeauty writers, Jo, Segun, Tunrayo, Joy, Tamara and Alexandra to test out lipsticks in a variety of shades and by different brands. This is the result of #brownbeautygoespink. We will be running this feature in two parts and the second one will be published tomorrow. Segun Garuba tried out pink lipsticks by DHC, Lord & Berry and Estee Lauder.

DHC Premium Lipstick - Rich Raspberry The shade is a deep pink shade with hints of purple and the texture is a hydrating satin finish. I found the pigmentation to be medium to high coverage with good colour payoff.

Lord & Berry - Raspberry Intensity The shade is a raspberry pink shade and the texture is a satin finish that is very nourishing on the lips. The pigmentation is a highly concentrated colour; from the first swipe it packs a punch and the colour payoff is fantastic.

Estee Lauder Pure Color Envy Shine Sculpting Lipstick - Pink Dragon This is shade is a soft rosy pink. I thought it would be too light for my skin tone but the colour worked beautifully, especially when paired with a lip liner. The pigmentation is a medium coverage so I needed to swipe this a couple of times to get the depth I needed. The texture is creamy, soft, smooth and very moisturising.

Joy Ejaria tested pink lipsticks by Bare Minerals, Revlon and Clarins.

Joy

bareMineral Marvelous Moxie - Never Say Never I am very surprised to say this was my favourite out of all the lipsticks I tried. Initially, the bold and highly pigmented shade scared me but after one glide, I fell in love. It reminds me of the ever so popular Candy Yum Yum by MAC. Though it is a bright colour, it really isn't overbearing. The satin finish helps it last longer on lips.

Revlon ColorBurst - Honey/Douce Before I talk about the shade, I would just like to mention how nice the Revlon Colour Burst smells. This particular shade had a strong peppermint smell. Now back to the shade. The Honey/Douce is a nice '' my lips but better type of shade''. Because its a lip stain as oppose to a full blown lipstick the staying power was very weak. It took a few glides for it to truly appear on my lips.

Priced at £7.99

Clarins Rouge Eclat - Pink Magnolia This is exactly the type of lipstick I like. As understated shade with enough moisture and pigmentation for daily use. According to Clarins, " the more you wear this lipstick the more luscious your lips will become" thanks to the Nutri-Youth complex it contains. I really do love the packaging. The shape makes gripping and gliding so easy and the formula means reapplying is unnecessary.

Tamara Hague tried pink lipsticks by Lola, Mary Kay and SBC.

Tamanna

LOLA Make Up Ultra Shine Lipstick – Candy Pink Candy Pink is a cool-toned, light pink with a full opacity and high level of pigmentation. It’s a good pink for daywear and I feel it would be suited to a lot of skin tones. This lipstick by Lola has a very creamy texture yet feels lightweight on the lips. It delivers a high level of shine without leaving lips sticky, and due to the creamy texture, has a good longevity.

Priced at £9.60

Mary Kay True Dimensions Lipstick – Sassy Fuchsia Sassy Fuchsia is a medium but hot pink, with a hint of purple, that gives a bright pink berry look on the lips. The texture is hydrating and slightly thin, which contributes to a smooth liquid-like finish. It has a medium level of pigment and can be built up for a high-definition look.

Priced at £14.00

SBC Creme Lipstick – Hot Pink Hot Pink is a bright, medium pink that would be a flattering shade for all. This creamy lipstick from Simply Beautiful Cosmetics has a thick, creamy texture and a lasting glossy shine, but needs to be layered as the level of pigment is low, yet this means it makes for an ideal lip stain. I like how this feels quite hydrating and comfortable on the lips.
