Black Secret Make-up
Black Secret Make-up was founded in 2009 in Ghana, to provide Women of Colour affordable mineral makeup to enhance their natural beauty. The brand has now expanded to the UK earlier this year, giving us another option of an affordable range for Brown beauties, which is much needed. I received the Lip Balm, Lip Gloss and Blush Duo to try out. First up the Lip Balm - unfortunately there is no shade name on the packaging but looking at the website I would guess it is Pine or Peach lust. It’s a hydrating Lip Balm with added ingredients like Caster Seed and Sweet Almond Oil, with SPF benefits, a light inoffensive scent and a slightly sweet taste. On the lip the actual shade is sheer but there are seven variants to choose from and apparently in the other shades coverage can be built up so there is colour on the lips.
I also received a Lip Gloss in the shade, Love My Lips, which looked like a gorgeous dark purple shade in the plastic squeezy tube, but like the Lip Balm, it is actually very sheer. It contains Vitamin E and gives a mirror like shine to the lips, I’m not a massive fan of the packaging on these two lip products, but it doesn’t stop their functions. My only criticism is that the gloss is very sticky with no pigmentation.
Finally we have the Blush Duo in Baby Doll which is housed in a small black mirrored secure compact. The pink side is slightly more pigmented than the orange, when swirled together this added more of a glow to my cheeks with very subtle colour. If you are after more pigmentation then you may have more luck with the three other shades. I have to admit that the staying power of the blush is very good, although it just gives you a glow rather than colour.
My overall opinion of Black Secret Makeup based on the three products that I have tried is that if you are a lady who likes your pigmentation then you would be better off going to GOSH Cosmetics or Sleek Makeup. However, if you are looking for products that deliver subtle and soft looks then this brand will be right up your street.
The Lip Balm is priced at £4.00, the Blush Duo at £7.00 and the Lip Gloss at £5.00.
