bareMinerals Complexion Rescue

For a mineral powder foundation brand, bareMinerals are certainly building a small collection of options for us liquid base lovers. bareMinerals Complexion Rescue is said to be a multitasking genius as it combines skincare benefits with light coverage in one, it also promises to increase the skin’s hydration level by 215% after one week’s use, while evening out your complexion and protecting it with a mineral based SPF30. The hydration is due to marine botanicals that help replenish thirsty skin, while mineral electrolytes help to energise the skin and antioxidant heart-leaf globe daisy protects against environmental stressors. As usual this is without the need of silicone, oil, parabens or fragrance, it’s hypoallergenic, non-comedogenic and dermatologist tested. A new brush priced at £24 was released alongside this product, but I just used my Real Techniques Buffing Brush, Expert Face Brush (worked the best) or fingers, so I don’t think it’s a necessity.

The shade 09 Chestnut is a good match for me, being lightweight in coverage means each shades caters to a wider range of skin tones, but I do believe this would benefit from a couple more shades for us brownbeauties. The wear time on this product is significantly improved on my combination skin with the introduction of a primer, I looked like an oil slick by the end of the day when we had the heatwave.

The QVC Show suggested applying this straight onto your skin with no moisturiser unless you are extremely dry. It does perform better the less moisture you have on your skin beforehand (think lightweight gels, serums and lotions), but I struggle to rely solely on my makeup for skincare and/or SPF benefits, especially during the summer months.

I really like this foundation but the difficulties with what to apply or not prior to application make this a little fussy, and it does require good prep of my combo/oily skin to last all day. It would be perfect during the winter months, when my skin is more normal to dry. If you are looking for a lightweight summer base, with added skincare properties and have normal/dry skin or are willing to prep combo-oily skin this is definitely one to consider.

bareMinerals Complexion Rescue is priced at £26.00.
