Avene XeraCalm AD Cream

I suffer from the Atopic Syndrome - simply put it means that I suffer from Asthma, Eczema and Hay Fever, all together known as the Atopy Triad. It can be tricky finding products that don’t irritate the skin on some part of my anatomy. Some things agree with my face but irritate my hands and vice versa. Enter Eau Thermale Avene’s XeraCalm AD Cream. This cream can be used on both the body and face. It’s also gentle enough to be used on babies. There are three products in the XeraCalm range: a balm, oil and the cream. I tried the XeraCalm AD Lipid-Replenishing Cream and had excellent results. Since 1743 Avene has been committed to treating various skin concerns from Atopic Dermatitis, Psoriasis, Eczema to burns. Their Hydrotherapy Centre is built near to the site of the Sainte-Odile Spring. The therapeutic properties of the Spring are the bedrock upon which the brand and its treatments have been developed. The benefits of the cream are that it reduces itchiness by as much as 97%* in children, as well as redness, irritations and restores skin's barrier. The key properties are I-modulia®, at the heart of the formula to reduce itching and redness and to stimulate skin defences and prevent secondary infections. It also contains Cer-Omega, a special compound in the cream and balm to repair and nourish skin while restoring the epidermal barrier.

XeraCalm AD Cream is very thick, absorbs well into the skin and stops the itching. I used it on my hands and face, they are the areas are most affected during the daily rigors of household chores and childrearing. At times, my face develops very fine heats like bumps that’s only visible very close up but they itch and burn a bit. It occurs when my hayfever is at its worse or after a bathroom cleaning session. My hands react to certain body washes, lotions and household cleansers, basically anything that is highly fragranced or has harsh chemicals.

I’ve even reacted to some of my baby girl's products. Prior to using the cream for months, I battled with extremely dry, chapped, itchy and slightly discoloured hands. XeraCalm AD Cream sorted out my irritated hands quick time. Within a few days actually saw and felt the improvement in my skin. I no longer feel the need to hide my hands away in public. On my face it was very moisturising and soothing and the heats went away.

Manufactured in a sterile environment, the gem of a product comes in a 200ml tube that is designed to keep the product sterile. A real shame that despite diagrams on the instructions paper it took me well over 10 mins to figure out how to get the cream out of the tube. It’s advised to use the cream twice daily to dry areas of face and/or body after cleansing. After use remove excess product and close the bottle.

There are no parabens or fragrances in the cream. In fact, the first three ingredients are Avene Thermal Spring Water, Glycerine and Mineral Oil. It’s RRP £16.50. Depending on how severe the skin condition, you can easily get at least two month's use. I've had my tube for a month and I still have roughly half of the tube, because I used it mostly on my hands only a few times on my face as mentioned earlier.
