Makeup Girl About Town - An Afternoon with NYX Cosmetics
I had no idea what to expect when I replied to the invitation to spend an afternoon with NYX Cosmetics last Friday. The day held promise, the sun was shining , it was a long weekend and I was wearing my new skirt - but more and better was to come. The gleaming white pop-up shop in the heart of London’s West End, looked intriguing. Inside was a Make Up Artists (MUAs) and beauty enthusiasts dream come true. I was met at the door by a lovely lady who introduced me to this line of makeup I had never heard of before. An already established line in America, NYX is the concept of a US MUA who wanted to create an affordable make up range with the quality of professional products. There was so much to try out, the whole range in fact! My fingers were itching to get experimenting. The colours, the sheer range of products - where to start?
Well there were soft, silky smooth Stay Matte But Not Flat Powder Foundation in a seriously good range of colours and two must haves for prepping your skin Pore Filler and Shine Killer. A rep from NYX informed me these are bestsellers in the US and they’ve just introduced a bigger size tube to cope with demand. Add that to Primers, concealers, tinted moisturisers, and a super easy to use two ended (contour/highlighter) contour stick. I knew I was going to be there a while so it was a good thing that refreshments and comfy seating were on tap. I moved onto the lipsticks, like a child in a candy store is how I’d describe the feeling.
Jo from Patent Purple Life and I enthused over the array of colours and textures quickly running out of space on our hands as we furiously tested everything. Soft and varied Lip Pencils, Matte Lipsticks, (soft as you like), Butter Lipsticks, Soft Matte Lip Creams and Butter Glosses. The shades went from the very pale, including a white to add highlights, to deep purple and even black. I had to try them out, so one of the lovely MUAs applied the Soft Matte Lip Cream in Morocco which is a vibrant orange. I loved it.
There were so many options for eye makeup too. A wide variety of black eyeliners which we all know is a great staple in anyone’s makeup bag, but my favourite eye products were the Jumbo Eye Pencils which you can pick up in fabulous colours. Trust me you have got to pick up that emerald green one.
I managed to take time to pause and meet Irene Moore, PR and Digital Communications Manager for NXY, who after a chat and some much needed refreshment, introduced me to their new contour palette which consists of eight contour and highlight shades. This would be perfect in my kit. All the other MUAs and bloggers seemed to be as excited as I was, and all pleasantly surprised at the quality that the range held.
Eventually it was time to drag myself away and onto my next appointment, but not before the crew filming asked me to say a few words about NYX. My overview is that NYX are a great quality product which offers a huge range at affordable prices that I hope to see on our high street soon.
