Afro World Day
The first World Afro Day takes place next Friday in London. Founded by Michelle De Leon, the aim of the event is to educate young people about the beauty of natural hair. Some of the world's most influential natural hair experts and personalities will be onboard to create an immersive experience.
“My vision started a few years ago when I heard my daughter singing about how much she loved her hair, “says Michelle. “In my heart, I just knew I wanted every black and mixed-race child in the world to feel that good about their hair. Young people's mental well-being is a top priority” continues Michelle “And it's in all our interest to promote self-love and make young people, no matter what their hair type: curly, straight, wavy or coily, feel great about themselves."
The line up includes Professor Angela Onwuachi-Willig from Berkeley School of Law, Professor Trina Jones from Duke School of Law, Professor Wendy Greene from Iowa School of Law and celebrity hairstylist, Vernon Francois.
The evening will consist of: a healthy hair clinic led by professional trichologists and dermatologists. Vernon Francois will be hosting a live demo helping you to embrace and take care of your coils, curls and waves. There will be a keynote by Professor Angela Onwuachi-Willig who is a campaigner for change in hair legislation.
Also there will be a panel discussion where the likes of Professor Angela Onwuachi-Willig, Vernon Francois, natural hair blogger, Simply Comfort and model and mumpreneur, Keisha Omilana – will be talking about careers and curls.
