AERIN Weekend Palette and Cool Gel Eyeliner
I was very excited to receive the AERIN Weekend Palette and Cool Gel Eyeliner to review. Aerin is the granddaughter of Estee Lauder and the creative director of her self named brand. I stalk Aerin on Instagram as her feed is filled with inspirational pictures of interiors and beautiful flowers (swoon). Every time I visit a department store that stocks her range I have a spritz of Gardenia Rattan and the Dahlia lipstick is on my wish list. Weekend Palette This palette is a beauty. Encased in a soft pink pouch is a beautiful square gold palette with a textures lid and polished sides that is full of colour products that you can use on the weekend for a relaxed face. It is a great idea to have your eye lip and cheek colours in one palette.
The four colours on the left hand side from top to bottom are the highlighter glow which is a gold/bronze cream which is gorgeous on the skin. Underneath that is the multicolour natural which is for lips and cheeks. The colour was not sufficiently pigmented for my skin so I used it as a lip balm.
Rose Balm in Whisper which looks pink in the palette but is colourless on my pigmented lips and finally Rose Balm in Cabanna which look nude in the palette but again is colourless on my lips. On the right hand side the largest square is the bronzer/illuminating powder (level 1). Clearly it is not a bronzer for me, and because it does not have an iridescent, I would not use it as a highlighter either. Instead I used it as an eye colour. Underneath the bronzer are two eye shadows. Simplicity is a champagne gold colour and Cocoa is a rich iridescent chocolate tone. The eye shadows have a beautifully smooth texture and apply evenly.
I really wanted to love this palette but the colour are just not pigmented enough or my skin. Aerin also have a weekday palette which has more pinks and deeper tones but looking at the makeup range as a whole, they are not targeting women of colour. It is not about the neutrality of the tones, it is about the depth of the shades. I asked one my colleagues to try the palette – she is Caucasian with a light/medium skin tone and she felt that the bronzer was too light for her too. The Level two intensity would have been her shade so with my deliciously chocolate skin there is no chance. It is a real shame
Cool Gel Eyeliner This is a pencil liner with a soft texture with small shimmering silver particles. I love it. It has a little bit of smudge factor but you have to work fast. It is great to define the lash area but my favourite way to wear it is all over the lid as a very quick and easy smoky eye (great for hooded eyes) or as a base for eye shadow. It is not the blackest black, but the shimmer is really pretty.
The Eyeliner is retractable and has a sharpener on the end, so it you want a very defined line you can create it easily. A great alternative to a shadow stick and more flattering on crepey lids then many on the market as it does not have too much shimmer in it and the particles are not too big.
AERIN is available online and from selected department stores. The Cool Gel Eyeliner retails for £19.00 and the Weekend Palette is £48.00.
